This past week on Monday July 18th, a few of us from Profile Food Ingredients attended the 16th Annual Institute of Food Technologists Expo in downtown Chicago for a day of networking and a bit of exercise! PFI employees Greg Koch, Jason Dompeling, Joanna Kielian, Iryna Kryzhanovych, and Mike Cagganello attended the event and all participated in the 16th Annual  5K Fun Run hosted by the IFT. The run was held on the beautifully scenic Lakeshore Trail starting in Burnham Park. For a few of our PFI teammates this was the most enjoyable part of the run. As Jason Dompeling puts it, “The best part of the day was being able to be along the lakeshore of Chicago on a beautiful morning, the views were great!”

In addition to the exceptional view, the IFT 5K Fun Run is also a scholarship fundraiser for the Feeding Tomorrow foundation program of the Institute of Food Technologists. The program’s main goal is to provide undergraduate, graduate and PhD students with the education to, “ensure a safe, nutritious, and sustainable future food supply”. This was also a rewarding piece of the PFI team’s day out of the office, “Reaching out in a new way at IFT and also to support a great cause was why I participated,” said Mike Cagganello, “I would definitely do this again!”

Later that evening, some of the PFI members gathered again at a reception on the Sears Tower Skydeck for a bit of business networking alongside all the fun. For Jason, Mike, Joanna, and Iryna this was their first time attending the IFT Expo. When asked if they would likely return next year? “Most definitely! Hopefully with a bigger group of PFI members to join the run!” says Joanna.  Sounds like a challenge to meet for next year! Until then, the IFT Expo has been another satisfying and enjoyable experience under our belt!
